  • Description: Thermoforming is a generic name for shaping a sheet of plastic which has been heated until soft [1]. When soft and pliable, the sheet is stretched over or into a cool mold. Once the material has adopted the shape of the mold it is cooled, so that it retains its new shape. This is why the process is called thermoforming — forming by means of heat. This sequence of events, heating, forming (or stretching) and cooling, forms the process cycle, and is at the heart of all thermoforming.
