Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- A slightly corroded fragment of a late early-medieval cast copper-alloy harness link (11th century AD). The object consists an oval loop with three knopped protrusions, one at each cardinal point. A central oval perforation is visible in the loop. A fragment of the square projection which would have connected the loop to the central boss survives. The reverse of the harness fitting is flat. The object is of a a red-brown colour but is almost completely covered in variable mid/dark-green corrosion product. A harness link can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 62; ref. 474), and one with an engraved boss in Williams (2007, 5; ref. 6c).The harness fitting is 27.0mm in length, 25.85mm wide, 7.05mm thick and weighs 9.04 grams.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.
