  • Description: Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- Late Early Medieval - Medieval (11th century) cast copper alloy double ended harness link. The link is a straight bar, D-shaped in section with a thickened and widened boss in the centre. In the middle of this expanded section is further expansion with a raised oval knop with rounded sides on the front and trapezoid knops projecting to top and bottom of the main bar. At either end are lozenge shaped terminals with rectangular knops on each of the three corners not attached to the main bar . There is an oval hole through the centre of each teminal; the holes have bevelled sides and widen towards the back. The back is flat apart from a recessed oval under the central expansion.It is 79.9mm long, 25.0mm wide by 5.0mm thick at the terminals; 18.4mm wide by 8.7mm thick at the centre. It weighs 27.53 grams. It is mostly corroded to a dull red patina with some green areas and a few modern areas of damage that have removed the corroded surface.
