Irregularly fired fabric ranging from dark grey to orange, tempered with, poorly sorted, common fragments of quartz sand, calcareous stone and flint (up to 6mm) and finer sand. Some pieces have large voids, probably from leeching out of the calcareous component. Seven body sherds, one base sherd and one rim sherd. The base is slightly sagging and the rim is flat-topped, in-turned and has an external bead. The rim and base are from cooking jars, and several of the body sherds sre likely to be from such vessels. Some pieces are externally sooted and and are fire-crazed on the exterior surface. Hand-made. The sherds are of variable size and are not abraded.Date: 11th to 12th century (pers comm: Lorraine Mepham)Weight: 115 g- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.
