  • Description: We study the J P = 0 +, T = 0 → J P = 0 −, T = 1 pion-like excitation in 40Ca, comparing it with our earlier results for smaller nuclei. The diamesic renormalization (due to high-lying N−h and Δ−h excitations), combined with finite-nucleus geometry, predicts interesting enhancement and quenching for different regions of the momentum transfer. It is useful in explaining available experimental results for light nuclei. We then show that studies on heavier nuclei will give complementary information on the diamesic renormalization and finite-geometrical effects in the spin-isospin mode, that is not available in the case of smaller nuclei.
