Description:
This chapter briefly talks about the severe economic situation in the sector of fragrant and aromatic plants in Reunion. It provides an overview of all the work done in the Chemistry Laboratory of Natural Substances and Food Sciences (LCSNSA) from the year 1998. Examples are provided to highlight the research topics devoted to plant volatiles and developed by the laboratory. Most of the results presented here are obtained from a close collaboration between the researchers, botanists and biologists who have been actively working in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. The chapter provides an analysis of essential oils and plant headspace in the chemistry laboratory of natural substances and food sciences. It discusses the identification of volatile compounds at the chemistry laboratory of natural substances and food sciences. Investigations by LCSNSA will continue because of the richness of the island.
