Description:
The Regency Alor Setar in the heart of the Kedah capital makes a delightful stay for those wanting to explore the northern state's charms before moving on to the colourful Thai town of Hat Yai. En route to Hat Yai, we had to pass Songkhla, a city surrounded by beaches such as Samila and Son Awn. This is why it is also known as `the great city on two seas'. With its beaches and nice green parks, Songkhla is definitely a good point to recharge one's battery before heading to the more bustling Hat Yai. Hat Yai is a popular shopping destination with Malaysians who flock there for a bargain-priced weekend shopping where things can be bought at least 20% cheaper. The town offers many good buys in Thai handicraft - especially local cotton products and cut-out leather goods. Given the huge tourist crowd it attracts, browsing and people watching in Hat Yai can be as much fun as bargain hunting.
