Description:
Enron Corp surprised Wall Street and oil-industry pundits with the success of its EnronOnline energy industry trading exchange, a service that is rapidly establishing Enron as the world's largest E-commerce company. Its most recent annual report says that it often introduces products before competitors even recognize that a market exists, and few network professionals are yet aware of gas and electric commoditization plans, according to analyst Seth Libby. Enron now wants to move into bandwidth trading, which critics warn is far more complex than Old Economy commodities. The company' Broadband Services subsidiary offers IP transport on a 12,000-mile fiber-optic network and plans such content-oriented services as video on demand. Bold ideas include the use of a single software-based trading platform for hundreds of different markets.
