  • Description: Various opinions are related regarding the paper market in 1997. The American Forest Paper Association's 37th annual capacity survey forecasts that: pulp, paper and paperboard capacity will grow at less than historical rates; paper capacity in tons is expected to rise; consumption of recovered paper, while growing faster than underlying capacity, is expected to flatten; and, recovered paper used by printing-writing mills is projected to grow 5.1% per year for 3 years. The expectations are discussed for domestic and foreign markets as well as several paper grades.
