  • Description: The mill in Gemmrigheim, 30 km north of Stuttgart in southwest Germany's picturesque wine-growing Neckar valley, was founded back in 1866 (making wood pulp) and began producing paper in the 1870s; in 1881, it took delivery of the first ever Voith Paper machine. Part of Steinbeis Temming Papier, the mill last year faced an uncertain future. The mill officially becomes independent on Jul 1, 2006. The new company will have a new name, Papierfabrik am Neckar, and, according to marketing director, Monika Heizmann, a new lease of life: People here have been dying slowly, now they have so much hope -- they are getting back their culture, their identity. The new company, which will employ 180 people, is aiming to boost output of its two paper machines, change the product mix and establish new brands. The magazine sector is one area the mill wants to target.
