Description:
With riverboat gambling expected to take off by the summer of 1994, and casino-style games of chance sometime in the same year, the city of New Orleans is primed for more visitors than ever to settle into its 25,000 hotel rooms. With the long-awaited convention center under way as well, the hospitality industry is anticipating a bright future. The city's first downtown hotel in 9 years is scheduled to open in December 1993. The 103-suite Comfort Inn is being developed from a vacant building. The city has an 11% room tax, and an additional occupancy tax is applied according to hotel size. Hotels and convention facilities in New Orleans are briefly profiled.
