  • Description: The sociological literature on news production is reviewed, with focus on three perspectives: (1) political economy, which ties the content of news to the ownership & structure of the industry; (2) social organization, which traces news content to the daily practices & routines of journalists within news orgainzations; & (3) cultural studies, which link news content to deeply seated cultural & ideological patterns in a society. Criticizing each of these approaches, a call is made for more comparative & historical research on news production. 52 References. AA
