Description:
Abby Hein, Oakland University This project explored the effectiveness of using a book as a visual aid to teach American Sign Language (ASL) to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and analyzed how learning ASL impacts children's verbal and nonverbal communication. Hsiang-Ling Wang and Yuqing Lu, Saginaw Valley State University The field of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language has been changing in different ways in recent years, such as building teaching systems and exploring diverse teaching methods (Sun, 2018). Effective foreign language teachers need to know how to deal with tone variables and language transfer when designing teaching activities aimed at developing learners' language proficiency and communicative competence. According to the result of the survey and our own teaching experience, three primary conclusions are that (1) neutral tone is more challenging than other tones, (2) positive language transfer increases grammar learning competence, and (3) applying taskbased activities is advantageous for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
