Some darkening of the leather may occur. Readhere lifting areas of the leather over the top, fore-edge, and bottom edges of the boards with gelatin. If needed, reinforce these areas with acrylic-toned mulberry paper and a mixture of wheat starch paste and PVA. Please note: some areas of the wooden boards will remain exposed. Release the loose leaves at the front mechanically. Hinge the detached leaves to the text block with mulberry paper, acrylic-toned if necessary, and wheat starch paste or a mixture of wheat starch paste and methyl cellulose, taking care to surface clean the area to be hinged with a polyurethane cosmetic sponge prior to hinging. Lift the top and bottom spine panels and lift the leather at the head and tail of the spine edge of the cover boards mechanically in preparation to reattach the boards. Reattach the boards by adhering ramie fiber tapes with gelatin or another appropriate adhesive that extends from the spine of the volume to the cover boards beneath the lifted leather. Readhere the lifted material with gelatin or another appropriate adhesive. Mend the joints with acrylic-toned mulberry paper and a mixture of wheat starch paste and PVA. Mend the interior hinges with mulberry paper, acrylic-toned if necessary, and wheat starch paste. Selectively clean the leaves with polyurethane cosmetic sponges and/or a soft brush to reduce surface soil, avoiding sensitive media. Embedded grime will not be reduced. Relax creased areas of the overslips between leaves 312-353 mechanically and/or with controlled applications of moisture. Lightly readhere lifting areas of the overslips where appropriate with a mixture of wheat starch paste and methyl cellulose. Mend vulnerable tears to the leaves with mulberry paper, acrylic-toned if necessary, and a mixture of wheat starch paste and methyl cellulose. Locally consolidate the cover mends and leather abrasions with a mixture of an acrylic polymer and wax emulsion, Klucel G, and ethanol.
