  • Description: "Bene Israel [Cincinnati's first Jewish congregation] held services in a rented room until dedicating [Cincinnati's] first synagogue on September 19, 1836, near the corner of Sixth and Broadway. The congregation grew and in 1852, completed a larger 3-story house of worship at the southeast corner of Sixth and Broadway. Six years later, it was sold to Cincinnati's first black congregation and became the Allen Temple African Methodist Church. (The Proctor and Gamble Company bought and razed Allen Temple for its expansion in 1979)."
