Description: Whereas geotextiles were initially used in transportation, hydraulics, and environmental applications, their familiarization led to myriad other applications. One of them is in commercial development of all types, about which this chapter is written. Nine separate situations focusing on geotextiles used in commercial development are presented. All bear heavily on the research, testing, design, and installation practices developed in the initial applications. Indeed, this is a situation in which technology transfer has occurred. After a description of each situation, a section consisting of five future trends will be offered followed by an appropriate conclusion.
