  • Description: This article analyses the series that the American artist Nancy Spero dedicates to the Vietnam War: «The War Series». Created between 1966 and 1970, at the height of the armed conflict, in this set of pieces Spero underlines the relationship between the myth of hegemonic masculinity, violence, domination and war. At the time, Spero's gaze contributed to making a counter-hegemonic discourse of the Vietnam War, thus proposing another relationship with the war. The artist not only condemned what was happening in Vietnam but invited the audience to rethink the extent to which their identities, masculine and feminine, were being shaped in relation to the war. Our work will contextualize Spero's work, will analyse the most relevant pieces in the series and, in dialogue with them, will reflect on the intertwining of war, violence and sexuality. Este artículo analiza la serie que la artista norteamericana Nancy Spero dedica a la guerra de Vietnam: «The War Series». Elaborada entre 1966 y 1970, en pleno auge del conflicto bélico, en este conjunto de piezas, Spero subraya la relación entre el mito de la masculinidad hegemónica, la violencia, la dominación y la guerra. En su momento, la mirada de Spero contribuyó a confeccionar un discurso contrahegemónico de la guerra de Vietnam, planteando, así, otra relación con la contienda. La artista no solo condenaba lo que estaba aconteciendo en Vietnam, sino que invitaba a la audiencia a repensar en qué medida sus identidades, masculina y femenina, estaban configurándose en relación con la guerra. Nuestro trabajo contextualizará la obra de Spero, analizará las piezas más relevantes de la serie y, en diálogo con ellas, reflexionará sobre la imbricación de la guerra, la violencia y la sexualidad.
