  • Description: In the last few years, events like the #GamerGates and the denunciations of sexual harassment show that there are still persistent problems linked to the situation of women in the video games culture and industry. This violence is far from new. Research shows the difficulties that video games encounter when it comes to the subject of gender, may it be in the games themselves or the specialized press. As such, this article analyzes English and French video game magazines to understand how they approached the subject of women from 1985 to 2001. Our goal is to demonstrate the necessity of using a microanalysis to observe a corpus that still includes dissonances, influences, and resistance even in a patriarchal and hegemonic general context.
