  • Description: .Sodium hydroxide mercerization and liquid ammonia pretreatments resulted in substantially higher moisture regains, indicating greatly enhanced accessibilities as compared to the unmercerized pulp. Moisture regains and infrared crystal linities were used to evaluate these changes in accessibility. The highest accessibility occurred with a comhination of both treatments on "never-dried" pulp.
