  • Description: The study analyzes the regional health inequalitiesof the European macro-region, with particularemphasis on Central and Eastern Europeanmortality trends. On the one hand the researchfocuses on the spatial division of the examinedarea, the identification of the main breaklines andon the mortality factors affecting thedifferentation. On the other hand it undertakes toidentify the socio-economic differences ofunderlying regional disparities of the health status.According to results beyond the traditionaleast-west division of the European macro-regionadditional "micro-cracks" can be detected by thedifferent variables describing health status. Theformerly more or less unanimously disadvantagedCEE region is at present far from being uniform. The main drivers of the regional division are stillthe noncommunicable chronical diseases, withcardiovascular diseases on the first place.According to our results parallel with the mortalityslope economic performance gradient can also beobserved.
