Description:
The following are some of the common furnish properties encountered by pulp mills using recycled fiber: 1. recycled fiber drains harder than virgin slush pulp, 2. recycled presses and dries more easily than virgin pulp, 3. recycled requires less refining, 4. contaminants can be more troublesome than in virgin pulp, 5. bleached recycled pulp is more variable in shade, and 6. some properties of recycled pulp get progressively worse as the number of cycles increases. Ways in which these properties effect the wet end operations of a paper machine are discussed.
