Description: Plantinga and Bernell's urban spatial model includes the weight of residents and demonstrates that weight and housing densities at each location are simultaneously determined. This model is used to demonstrate that residents with greater aversion to weight gain will sort into higher-density locations closer to the central business district. This article conducts an empirical analysis to determine whether weight affects the types of locations selected by individuals.
