  • Description: Provincial economic growth and development depend heavily on the improvement of infrastructure, for the latter is considered as a major constraint on doing business, especially in developing economies. It could be explained via the indicators of business economic density (World Bank, 2009). Some of these indicators, such as may reflects past performance, but it could not help to understand the pressure on maintaining the quality of infrastructure for economic activities of enterprises and households. The transport problem shows that there are some segments which have higher transport pressure than the other segments in the same type of infrastructure. The new point of this paper is that the authors build the selected mode of transportation index (SMT) in order to reflect the types of transport which are given priority service to use economic and social activities. This index also reflects the concentration and accumulation of economic activities and the density of them; therefore, it differs from the normal index of competitive advantage. It also means reflecting the competitive advantage of each locality in the region. In addition, this article focuses on assessing the impact of SMT on firm performance of enterprises through the case study of Vietnam.
