  • Description: The pulp and paper industry has seen difficult times over the last few years. Depressed markets, coupled with significant new capacity coming on line, have resulted in lower prices for end products. The cost of bleached kraft pulp reached an all-time low, and the price of market mechanical pulp kept in lockstep with the selling price of kraft pulp. Acceptance of bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) has varied from region to region, with a user's past experience with market mechanical pump being a significant factor. Hardwood BCTMP grades, particularly aspen BCTMP, have been the grades that have cracked the fine paper and specialty paper markets. Although not all hardwoods can be used for BCTMP, the range of BCTMP grades is significant.
