  • Description: Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- Envelope-shaped purse made of polychrome vitreous paste beads strung on silk thread, to the contour of which a raw silk chevron with metal plates has been applied. The lining is made of salmon-coloured silk taffeta and closes with a ribbon of the same material. Its rigid texture is achieved by means of a cellulose interlining. The decoration on the front depicts a swan lying on its young, surrounded by floral motifs. The reverse shows a blue bird with its wings outstretched. \This envelope-shaped accessory is very common towards the middle of the 18th century. Many of the decorative motifs chosen for these objects were inspired by love and fidelity. All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.
