  • Description: This article discusses the language related to electronic money in the Finnish media. The approach is linguistic and the theoretical framework is critical discourse analysis. The samples used in the analysis are from financial newspaper articles. The purpose is to compare the terminology used for traditional money with that used for electric money. This study introduces 15 names used for electric money. These names are good examples of intertextuality, they contain the elements of two domains: the financial world and the dataworld. This is typical of the language of these media examples as a whole. The terminology of abstract electric money is very concrete; there are still coins whirling around in the net, and people still have electric purses in which to save the money. This study shows, however, that there are some differences between the metaphorical frames of traditional money and electric money. (Author/VWL)
