  • Description: Canada's history of immigration and settlement has resulted in people from many cultures worldwide migrating to various parts of the country. As a result, Canadian school classrooms have exponentially increased in diversity. Although there is an overwhelming number of teaching resources for certain musical cultures of the world, South Asian musical resources are quite limited and, in most cases, unavailable. Indian film music is a popular South Asian musical genre that may be able to fill this gap while being relevant to many young people (Sarrazin, 2006). Therefore, film music could be used as a bridge to introduce South Asian music. Utilizing World Music Pedagogy as a framework in teaching Indian film music will further allow both teachers and students to learn new music while simultaneously empowering all parties to share and experience new musical cultures.
