The JJWB linked the ideas and sociability of German youth movements, from which Jews were barred, to Jewish ways of life. "Like the German youth movement, the JJWB began by establishing an anti-modern, anti-urban, anti-rational education idea, the realization of the "Jung-Jüdischer Mensch". It was meant to express their protest against a broad range of political, social and intellectual conventions, against politics and parties, against "philistinism" left, right, centre. Positively, it professed a romantic humanism, search for a new irrational form of life, individual automony and sincere sociability ... Adapted to the Jewish world, the JJWB's attack was directed against the routine character of Western bourgeois Jewish culture.
