  • Description: Asian countries claimed four of the five top spots in science achievement for eighth grade students, according to a December 5 report on the Third International Mathematics and Science Study ‐ Repeat (TIMSS‐R). The top five are: Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Hungary, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. In mathematics, Asian countries scored a clean sweep. The top five are: Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong SAR,and Japan.
