Description: This article updates the progress of California's first permitted full‐scale arsenic removal system and one of the nation's largest ion exchange (IX) arsenic removal projects for drinking water. As part of Baldy Mesa Water District's (BMWD) system, this technology allows treatment of 6,000 gpm, equivalent to more than 8 mgd, and expandable to 11 mgd with the addition of a fourth 2,000 gpm module. The article discusses the success of the full‐scale demonstration system and the construction of the additional 2,000 gpm Avenal Treatment Facility, along with long‐term performance and managing costs.
