  • Description: This effort applied the DNS names, IP addresses, and IP alias relationships collected as part of the Discarte and RadarGun projects to instrument the Undns rules, developing robust metrics for completeness and location imprecision. Undns, a DNS-based router location inference system, comprises three parts an engine for partial regular expression matching customized for DNS names, a set of rules that comprise over 12,000 lines spread across approximately 270 autonomous systems, and an interface to scripting languages (Perl and Ruby) to permit on-line use. Armed with these metrics, the Undns ruleset is better revised, vestigial rules removed or demoted for maintenance, and redundant locations distinguished. The original document contains color images.
