Description: The application of psychoanalytic concepts within historical writing, including a tradition known as "psychohistory," is examined. Psychohistory is placed in historical context, & the use of psychoanalytic concepts within history is discussed with attention to the effect of these concepts on historians' notions of rationality, & to the psychoanalytic conceptualization of the relation between the internal & external worlds.
