  • Description: PURPOSE: A method of manufacturing activated carbons from pulp sludge containing lignin produced as by products when making corncob pulp is provided to replace coconut or wood derived activated carbons with waste sources. CONSTITUTION: The method includes the steps of (i) heating a pulp sludge containing lignin produced as by products when manufacturing corncob pulp at about 500°C for carbonization; (ii) crushing the carbonized pulp sludge followed by sorting on the basis of particle size; and (iii) activating the crushed pulp sludge in an oxidizing atmosphere of 500 to 1000°C.
