ISBN 0-906795-43 On occasion it can be entirely appropriate to study the life and work of an early natural philosopher through a bibliographical survey of his (or more rarely, her) publications and the various issues and reissues of pertinent books and papers. Certainly, in the case of Nehemiah Grew, the famous comparative anatomist and plant physiologist of the 1670s and beyond, the published record is the most concrete account of his thoughts and working practices that has been left to posterity.
