  • Description: The sixth of 10 volumes of a basic course in Persian is presented that is designed for use in the Defense Language Institute's intensive programs for native English speakers. This volume is, for the most part, a continuation of the material and methods presented in volume five. The central feature of the daily lesson is the structured dialogue in which a number of grammatical features are systematically incorporated in a daily situation. Since many of the basic structures, patterns, and vocabulary of the language have already been introduced, a more varied selection of vocabulary and some essential but more complex sets of phrases are included. In order that students may benefit from each lesson, a summary of the contents of the book and the intended use of each part are presented. Each lesson begins with a series of perception drill patterns to be used extensively prior to the introduction of the daily dialogue, which is followed by a translation in idiomatic English. The grammar analysis section contains a summary of the various functions and usage of a given item. The grammar drills utilize the new structural patterns as well as new vocabulary and review vocabulary. The reading section consists of a narrative containing the assimilated lexical ltems. Tapes accompany the text. (SW)
