  • Description: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things is one of most well-known master pieces of Bosch. This painting portrays the moral precepts of performing the good death, whose admonitory message was interpreted from an Erasmian perspective. It is of vital importance to highlight the fact that this painting was part of the private collection of Phillip II of Spain, who happened to be a keen collector of Bosh’s works and was taught and instructed following the ideas of Erasmus. This article seeks to analyse Bosch’s painting in the light of the precepts of performing the good death, mainly, the work called De praeparatione ad mortem by Erasmus. Thus, it is intended comprehend the look on death which was reflected in the royal image of Phillip II’. Los siete pecados capitales y las cuatro postrimerías es una de las obras más reconocidas del Bosco. Esta obra tiene la particularidad de reflejar los preceptos claves para un bien morir, cuyo mensaje admonitorio tendió a leerse en una clave más “erasmiana”  hacia el siglo XVI. Es menester comprender que dicha pintura formó parte de la colección privada de Felipe II, quien además de ser un gran coleccionista de la producción artística del Bosco, tenía una clara formación humanista, basado principalmente en las ideas de Erasmo de Rotterdam.Por lo tanto, en este trabajo se pretende cotejar la obra del Bosco a la luz de aquellos tratados sobre la preparación para el bien morir, principalmente la obra De praeparatione ad mortem de Erasmo de Rotterdam y de esta manera comprender la mirada en torno a la muerte que pudo verse reflejada en la imagen regia Felipe II.
