Title:
SEM as a Connector: Principles of Practice
Author:
Rees, Timothy
Subjects:
Students
Is Part Of:
College and University, 2022, Vol.97 (3), p.76-78
Description:
The result is a guide that may lead to practice that has relationship and connection at its core; however, the onus is on the end user. [...]we can conclude that while the path laid out in this work is extensive and instructive, the practitioner must already be predisposed to think in these terms rather than a more utilitarian approach of relying solely on data to drive decisions. The authors provide a compilation of individual projects and potential principles drawn from a wide swath of strategic enrollment management practices across various institutions in the United States and Canada. An extremely intelligent quote illustrating the tension of business versus student in our field of practice comes from a panel discussion at the 2016 AACRAO SEM Conference (Ralston 2016): "Use data, but love students, not the other way around."
