  • Description: 3181. Ilobson, F. W. Feb. 8. Bleaching, processes and materials for. - In the manufacture of paper pulp from chemical wood cellulose, more particularly unbleached sulphite or soda cellulose, the cellulose is bleached by introducing it dry into concentrated bleaching-liquor, preferably in a rotatable drum, which is then closed, and then agitating the mass, as by slow rotation of the vessel. The bleach used is chloride of lime, and the cellulose is introduced in the dry unbroken sheets. In examples, 4À8 and 10À2 per cent of bleaching- powder are used in respect of the dry sulphite and soda cellulose respectively, the proportion of water used being so small that the bleached pulp may be taken direct from the treating vessel to the beaters without draining.
