  • Description: It has been just over a year since the introduction of Version 3 of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL). The update to ITIL, a framework for best practices in IT service delivery, was intended to sharpen its focus and attract a new group of followers. Early adopters have mostly high praise for ITIL Version 3. Still, not all users of Version 2 have rushed to adopt Version 3, which its authors call a "refresh." Version 3 sweeps aside many of the earlier criticisms. Experienced users offer the following advice: 1. Don't abandon your Version 2 efforts. 2. Do get started on v3, it's worth it. 3. Look at the tools. 4. Prepare for culture shock. 5. Don't expect to find everything in v3 -- or like everything you find.
