The book starts by praising God, then the prophets, the prophet's family, then the disciples. Appears to be a biography of the great prophets and saints. Red ink is used for titles of scholars and saints. Register description: "MS book (incomplete) written in Persian script in black ink, with chapter headings in red, on bamboo paper; 123 leaves, bound with stiff parchment back and covers - each cover painted on the outside with a formalised vase of flowers under an arch, all enclosed in a diaper border. The name of the book is "Umdat al Maqamat", it is an anthology of verse and prose - extracts from biography and history, a resume of the lives of Muslim saints and leaders (including Abu Hanifa, 11th century A.D.) and drawn from a quoted bibliography; compiled by Al Muhammed (name) ilin (son of) al fadl (his father) Allah Al-Sarhandi al-tarugi (name and where born) ilin (son of) Arif Al-Wali Sah Gutam Sunni (name and sect). Persian, c. A.D. 1650. Found (i.e. looted) by Capt. W.H.S. Hadley of the 2nd Queen's Royals, at the capture of Kabul and Kelat in 1839.
