  • Description: Historically, in the US the primary model for the family has consisted of a married man and woman and their biological and adoptive children. The traditional, intact, immediate family now lives in the same neighborhood with the nontraditional family form, which includes divorced, single-parent, blended, cohabitating, multi-generational, lesbian/gay, and foster configurations of family. Whatever the family form, traditional or nontraditional, any significant change in family form will affect the children, and they need support and professional intervention or referral for counseling or therapy, especially during the crucial transition period. Here, Lambie discusses at-risk children of nontraditional families.
