  • Description:   Failed states have become a significant phenomenon in current international relations. This paper deals with the theoretical basis of the failed states issue. It aims at the definition of the term and states different approaches towards it. Also, it contains an analysis of the main characteristics of the state failure, focusing specifically on the relationship between the LDCs and failed states. It also briefly describes theoretical attempts to measure the extent of state failure and outlines its frequent causes. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
