  • Description: The book also includes a glossary (§IX, pp. 139-61), bibliography (pp. 163-77), and useful appendices giving a description of the "mechanics" of the cuneiform alphabetic script (contributed by John Ellison, pp. 179-88), answers to all the exercises (pp. 189-205), and charts of paradigms (pp. 207-17). Conspicuously absent are any texts from the ritual genre, and given the paucity of extant legal texts ( 10 in CAT) relative to the abundance of administrative/economic texts (792 in CAT), the inclusion of four legal texts but only two administrative texts can be misleading for the introductory student. [...]I would highly recommend the use of Bordreuil and Pardee's A Manual of Ugaritic alongside or after working through Huehnergard in view of the richer chrestomathy they provide (with each text presented with photos, line copies, transliteration, vocalization, translation, and notes), not to mention the independent perspective they lend on the grammar.
