  • Description: A development group from Syracuse has begun rehabilitation of the Ellwanger and Barry Building in downtown Rochester, a mixed-use project that will turn the historic Romanesque revival structure into residential and commercial space. When construction is complete next summer, the eight-story building will be home to 64 one- and two-bedroom, market-rate apartments and a roof-top deck, as well as space for commercial endeavors on the first floor. For a residential project to be approved for mortgage, sales and/or property tax incentives, there must be an affordable housing component.
