  • Description: Context. Since 2014, we have witnessed an acceleration in the pace of massive relocation operations in Algerian cities, particularly the capital, with the ambition of making the city of Algiers the first African capital without slums. The present research attempts to evaluate more closely this relocation strategy, the operations of which are underway, by trying to identify the effects of this massive relocation and to measure the degree of satisfaction of the relocated families, through an evaluation of the satisfaction of one of the largest housing estates, 'the Rachid Kourifa estate' located on the periphery of the capital Algiers. Materials and methods. Our methodology was based on three main steps: (1) data collection through questionnaire surveys of residents and local authorities; (2) analysis of the data using a statistical approach and measurement of uncertainty; (3) reduction of the uncertainty of the results of the previous analysis. Results and discussions. The results of our surveys and analyses show that the majority of the variables were evaluated negatively, which means that the inhabitants are not satisfied with their new residential situation. This exercise allowed us to identify the following dissatisfactions: the non-participation of slum dwellers in the relocation process, the lack of transport and local facilities, which accentuates their social marginalization, pollution, insecurity, the absence of recreational areas, and the failure of children to complete their education. Conclusions. The application of the satisfaction evaluation on our case study allowed us to evaluate this project and to identify its strengths and weaknesses and build an evaluation model as a decision support tool that could increase the chances of success of future relocation projects, as well as allow us to move towards a new reflection on the production of concerted urban planning.
