  • Description: To the Editor: Beyond showing the benefit of aspirin for the prevention of preterm preeclampsia, the trial conducted by Rolnik et al. (Aug. 17 issue) 1 shows the use in practice of a model of universal first-trimester screening that used biomarkers to target high-risk patients. However, translating the results of this randomized trial to real life, assuming similar detection rates and similar treatment efficacy, means that the screening of 100,000 women could prevent 300 events of preterm preeclampsia (number needed to screen, 333). No significantly lower rates of severe adverse fetal or neonatal outcomes were detected with aspirin than with placebo; . . .
