  • Description: This chapter deals with few of the major crops grown across the world. Cotton is a hot‐weather crop. In the USA, cotton production stretches from Georgia through Arizona and California and covers more than 14 million acres. Lumber is wood in any of its stages and has a variety of uses, from structural material in construction and furniture‐making to wood pulp for paper production. Pulp is one of the most abundant raw materials in the world. It is essentially used to manufacture paper, but also textiles, food, and many other industries. Wool production is influenced by drought and economic factors. Non‐profit organizations have been very present in the development of cashmere projects in Kyrgyzstan. There are four primary steps to cashmere production: collection; sorting; dehairing; and weaving or knitting.
