Description:
Optional infill drilling in the Kansas Hugoton gas field has failed to prove increased gas reserves, contradicting claims that in some infill wells higher pressures and deliverabilities indicate new reserves. A study by Phillips Petroleum Co. determined that the higher pressures and deliverabilities result from differing completion efficiencies and infill well completions in different layers than in the companion original well. However, an improved completion was found not to be unique for an infill well; the same improvements also could be obtained by restimulating the original well. Statistical analysis of the infilled units, on production through September 1992, confirms conculsions that infill wells have not encountered gas not being drained by the original wells.
