  • Description: Among internal sizes, the shrinkage of the rosin market is slowing, with cationics steadily taking share from liquid and anionic rosins. Alkenyl succinic anhydride has been taking share from alkyl ketene dimer, but that process has slowed, and some expect AKD to rebound. Among external sizes, styrene maleic anhydride continues to lose share to styrene acrylic acids, and upstarts styrene acrylic emulsions and polyurethane dispersions threaten both. Producers throughout the industry agree that the longstanding decline in the market for rosin-based sizes is nearing an end, although there is some disagreement where the product cycle is now.
