  • Description: [...]a feature called "Methods in Practice" is offered, in which a few illustrative important problems are considered in an integrated manner, e.g., congestive heart failure, hypertension, episodic tachycardia, and infective endocarditis. Bedside Diagnosis examines and explores the diagnostic implications of some 20 common symptoms or signs, i.e., pain (head, chest, and abdomen), dysphagia, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, epistaxis, hemoptysis, gastrointestinal bleeding, hematuria, hemorrhagic disorders, anemia, cough, dyspnea, tachycardia, weight loss, obesity, fever, and coma. Some laboratory and ancillary aids have also been omitted, for example, the use of the creatine phosphokinase in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction, despite the inclusion of the serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and lactic dehydrogenase; sonography and computerized tomographic scanning are absent from a discussion of the diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma.
